CASE STUDY – COMEDIAN

I worked with a stand-up comedian who had started to experience anxiety before going on stage, particularly around the fear of a set not landing. Although experienced, he found himself overthinking material, second-guessing timing, and becoming hyper-aware of audience reactions. This was affecting his delivery and confidence, especially in new rooms. We focused on interrupting that pattern and rebuilding a more natural performance state. Using NLP and hypnotherapy, we worked on quietening the internal dialogue, strengthening his stage presence, and creating a simple pre-set routine he could rely on. Over time, he reported feeling more relaxed and back in flow on stage, trusting his material again rather than analysing it mid-performance. He says: “I didn’t realise how much I’d got in my own way. The sessions helped me get out of my head. I feel a lot more like myself on stage again.” JC

CASE STUDY – FOOTBALL PLAYER

I worked with a professional footballer who was struggling with pressure in key moments, particularly around taking penalties. In training, his technique was solid. But in matches, he would overthink the outcome, hesitate, and lose confidence at the point of contact. We worked on separating the moment from the meaning he was attaching to it, reducing the internal pressure, and building a consistent mental routine for high-pressure situations. This included anchoring a calm, focused state he could access before stepping up. The result was a noticeable shift in composure and decision-making under pressure, with improved consistency in his performance during matches. He says, “It gave me a way to deal with the pressure instead of trying to ignore it. I feel more in control when it matters, which has made a big difference to my game.” DC

CASE STUDY – WEIGHTLIFTER

Over a few weeks I helped a female weightlifter progress from lifting 170kg to 227.5kg (a 33+% increase), smashing the Welsh and UK records and is now ranked number two in the world in her category. We’re now working towards world number one within the next few months. “Working with Nigel has been fascinating; we explored different strategies to manage anxiety and self doubt that were obstructing a successful performance mindset in my chosen sport.
